New Life Christian Fellowship is a non-denominational Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, church community serving Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and the greater New River Valley area. We pull from the rich, deep, and extensive 2000 year long faith tradition of the church in order to love God and love our neighbors. In our theology, we affirm the Nicene and Apostles creeds.

NLCF was founded in 1989 on the campus of Virginia Tech as a church by and for college students. We have grown over the years to include two congregations - Collegiate and Generations, both focused on making disciples in the name of Jesus. Our main value is also our mission and posture - Hospitality. We see this posture as one of the main ways the New Testament church incarnated the gospel message of God’s reconciling work in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit as a signpost to a weary world. (Acts 2:42ff, 2 Cor 5:11-21). As people come through our doors, we desire to equip them to carry God’s love with them into their homes, classrooms, work spaces, and friendships.

As the church, we are the Missio Dei - the “Mission of God,” extending His grace, mercy, and forgiveness to the place he has called us. We believe that our faith is best lived out among a community of fellow believers, so our emphasis is on life together in several spaces - large group worship and teaching, mid-week bible studies and fellowship, small group accountability, and one on one discipleship.

209 Manna Marketplace- a food pantry for any VT student who needs it, open on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:30-6p at 209 W Roanoke Street, just off campus.

International Furniture Giveaway - every Summer we collect gently used furniture for folks coming in from all over the world!
Spring Break Trips
Honduras - Each year we send a team to Danli, Honduras to come alongside the local GCLA church for a week. We spend time encouraging the local church, evangelizing in schools and neighborhoods, and participating in clean water projects, kids programs, and more!

ADK Leadership Training
Adirondack Leadership Training is a 8 week long summer program that serves to equip college students for a life of following Jesus in and out of college. Students dive deep into rhythms and practices that can shape our faith and bless others for Christ.

Tomorrow is Holy Saturday... the one day of Holy Week we aren't touching on in some way during this Lenten season. Thus, here's a glimpse of what Holy Saturday is, and the posture it might invite us to take up.

SPRING BREAK HIGHLIGHT // CHLOE, MEMPHIS Over the spring break trip I feel like God was showing me how to live in a way that glorifies Him through every moment, not just the ones that are at church. Whether it was being kind and inclusive of everyone, being willing to help out, or watching how everyone prioritized God, it was inspiring to see so many examples of how to live in the image of God. One trip highlight was circle pong, where everyone from various churches gathered together to play some competitive games.

[The Week that Changed the World] // THURSDAY A lot happened on this particular Thursday. This week, Kristal narrowed in on the act of Jesus washing His disciples feet, taking a job that normally would be done by a servant or slave. She leaves us the question of what we might do to 'wash others feet?'

SPRING BREAK HIGHLIGHT // CALEB, HONDURAS I encountered God the most when listening to the stories of the people we helped, especially at the rescue homes in Choluteca. I also saw Him moving in the recipients of the water filters and just how much they were needed and the peoples response to them.

[The Week that Changed the World] // Monday As Kristal shared on Sunday, Jesus did indeed turn over some tables in a step toward cleansing the temple. This action leads us to consider what might need to be cleansed within us.

SNAPSHOT RECAP // NADINE "Rejection remained a theme throughout my journey. More recently, I was turned down by MIT, Stanford, and the Outstanding Senior Award, which I believe I had deserved and had specifically prayed for these opportunities. So it was hard to accept that they weren't meant for me. But in hindsight, I see that God was protecting me from paths that might've led to undue pressure or taken away from where I was truly meant to be. I've learned to see rejection not as failure, but as a signpost from God, redirecting me towards His plans." Nadine! Thank you for sharing about the difficulty and disappointment that rejection can bring, but how God can still be trusted in the midst of that!

Last week, we sent out Meg and Christian for a three month sabbatical! We offer sabbaticals every seven years to allow extended time to step away to rest, be rejuvenated by, and encounter Jesus so that we might continue in ministry faithfully and for the long haul. Would you join us in praying for them in the midst of their sabbatical? Interested in what this practice of rest might look like for you in your daily life? Try practicing a weekly sabbath! Don't know what that is or what that looks like? Talk to someone on staff!

Pray for us! 🙏 Our Spring Break trips to Memphis and Honduras are underway! These teams (12 total across both teams) are joining with long-standing partners and organizations in these places to live out the Gospel and join with God's work there 🏠 🚰✝️

"God is an amazing storyteller and what amazing stories don't have some sort of conflict?" Daniel, thank you for sharing with us part of your story about walking faithfully with God, seeking Him and His good, even when life is difficult and sucky.

FAM HIGHLIGHT || MAROON FAM 🧱 Ella "This is my third year as a part of Maroon Fam and it may sound cheesy but it truly does feel like a family. Having this space to enter into every week has been such a blessing to me in so many ways. I have grown so much in my relationship with the Lord since coming to college and that would not have been possible without the people I have met through Maroon Fam that have challenged and supported me through both the good and the hard times. I thank God for the relationships I have formed and for all the big and small moments of laughter and joy they have brought into my life from sharing meals together every week to cracking up trying to think of a creative use for a jar of Mayonnaise at Fall Retreat. I'm so excited to see the ways in which God works in and through this group during my last three semesters."

As we look forward to the semester about to begin, we want to take a moment to recognize our Fall 2024 graduates! We've been honored to be part of your journey these last few years and can't wait to see all that you and God do next!

SNAPSHOT RECAP || BIANCA "Right now, I feel like God is teaching me how to have a real relationship with Him. Not just running to Him when things are going bad... And that's not the kind of relationship I wanna have with Him anymore. I've been trying to respond to that by making time for Him in my daily life, praying, and reading my Bible and going to church. And not just Bible study when I'm stressed or when things are going wrong, but when things are going well. One big thing I've learned about God is that He's there for us no matter what." We are so delighted you were able to share your snapshot with us, Bianca! It is a testament to not only God's work in your life, but your boldness to let Him shape you through being around other believers and giving your time to Him!

This past Sunday, David shared about the freedom we have in Christ through the lens of O Holy Night. There are plenty of awesome reflection questions if you go back and watch the sermon! Let's rejoice in the freedom we have in Christ (and that this freedom might not always look like what we think)!

SNAPSHOT RECAP || CHLOE "Most of the time I'm walking around campus, I'm talking to myself. I don't usually listen to music and I will often get involved in lengthy discussions in my head based on the things I see around me. I think it was during Huddle last semester, we were talking about what the Lord was inviting us into, and I felt He was asking me to give up the time that I spent talking to myself and walking to thank Him and praise Him for the things I saw around me... I now more often recognize cases when He gives me something to laugh at or brings up an idea about my faith or my life." Chloe! SNAPSHOT RECAP || LUKE "During community college, I met a few people I would consider life-long friends. They're people I feel like I was meant to meet in that time and in that place. During those years, God showed me how to understand and accept others, which began with really understanding and accepting myself. I learned to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and how God showed me ways to use my strengths in ways that delight Him. And I also believe that transferring to Virginia Tech in the spring of 2023 was God's plan for me all along." This past weekend we celebrated 35 YEARS on campus at Virginia Tech! There are so many stories to tell of what God has done and so many more we’ll be able to tell in the future!

FAM HIGHLIGHT || HOKIE FAM 🦃 Evan “Every week Thursday is the day I look forward to most. In a time where most people are living in anxiety and worry, it’s a breath of fresh air to come to Hokie fam and be in a community with people who are filled with the same joy that I am. Most people in the fam are going through the same situations, so I love getting to learn how others face those situations. In my time in Hokie fam, I feel that my relationship has grown with Jesus, because of the caring community. I just pray that I can bring others to experience the love of God that Hokie fam is able to cultivate.”

She reminded us how God meets us in the midst of difficult things and what it looks like to be intentional to pursue an occupation that aligns with the giftings, interests, and desires God has given us!

FAM HIGHLIGHT || OFAM 🍊 via Bianca My name is Bianca Campos. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when I first started coming to Bible study. All I knew was that I wanted to strengthen my connection with God and get closer to people who shared the same beliefs. I’ve definitely found that at Ofam. Not only have I connected with others in faith, but I’ve also found a group of fun, kind, and caring people who I love spending time with every Tuesday. Being around Ofam really lifts my spirits—they’re such a joy to be around. We always start our meetings with a game or by sharing something great about our week or something we’ve seen in the world, which I think is awesome. I’m really happy I decided to join Bible study because I feel like I’m achieving my goals of getting closer to God and building meaningful relationships.

This past week, Wendy taught on approval and going beyond the surface level (virtue signaling, water bottle stickers), to the deeper things (loving service and sacrificial generosity). How might we seek to find the approval of God, rather than focusing in worldly approval?

One day, you're not going to be in college anymore. You're not going to have people right away holding your hand, telling you what to do... you're not going to have the same schedule week to week... and it's hard. BUT, I think about my time on the porch at LT... how special it was that I built that habit [of spending time with Jesus everyday]. LT is life changing. It helps to shape the 'you' inside that is connected to the Spirit more so than the 'you' inside that's connected to the world, we've all always got that battle going on within us."
