Where and when?
Sundays 9:30-11:00am (10:00 - 11:30am summer)
Dayspring Christian Academy Gym
What’s the goal?
To be an innovative church community loving each other, the NRV, and the world.
Who will be there?
We’ve found that in our college town, graduate students and local community members, married or not, with children or without, often feel stuck in a church no-man’s land: too old to still pretend to be in college, yet not finding the exact right place to settle down. These are the folks nlcf downtown is for: if you need help making great decisions in your workplace, figuring out what to do when/if you finish your dissertation, growing as a husband or wife, being single in a culture that makes that hard, being a real and honest parent to your kids, feeling honored as a stay at home mom.
How much is God a priority?
On Sunday Jan 6, 2008, Jim spoke about the mission and the current members prayed for God to bless the public opening of this new congregation. Listen to it here.
Where do my kids fit into the equation?
You already know that your children are beyond value and their development is critically important, you don’t need us to tell you that. You may have read what the scriptures say about the importance of training them; and at the same time you may wonder why your ten and eight year old were just wasting time before school chasing each other with dirty laundry, slamming doors and irritating their little sister (okay, maybe that is just our family). Just know this, at nlcf we deeply value your children and the development of their hearts and minds, and the challenge of it all. Whether it is with our Little Lights program for 6 month olds to 5th graders, or our middle school and high school youth programs, you can be confident that your kids will have a great time, learn scriptural truths and be encouraged all in a very safe and secure environment, by caring and skilled staff and volunteers. Your kids are a part of your family, and we will treasure them as a part of ours.
What’s there to do other than Sundays?
Homegroups are various assortments of folks who meet weekly across Blacksburg and Christiansburg for worship, prayer, learning, and serving. In addition, the Woodward’s will be having monthly get-togethers at their place on 1705 Westover Dr. Stay tuned for specifics about that.
How can I win $10?
If you’re not currently involved in a church, we’re bribing people to try ours. Swing by this Sunday, fill out this card, and you’ll be in the weekly door raffle to win 10 bucks. Splurge on a grande frappamochalatte, faux jewlery, or (if you’re like a lot of us) restock on diapers. Just answer these four simple questions by print on Sunday or email them to downtown@nlcf.net:
- Did you feel welcome?
- Was your heart challenged?
- How was the food?
- How can we help/pray for you?
Why is the downtown congregation not really downtown?
Our long-term home will be the historic Lyric Theater in downtown Blacksburg. Right now we are in the process of renovating a building beside it that will be critical for us to have before we can meet there. It’s complicated. Trust us. We are working diligently on everything that a downtown renovation entails and as soon as the project is completed, we will shift over. In the meantime, we are very grateful to Dayspring Christian Academy for making their facilities available to us! See you Sunday!
