The 506 Men’s Ministry

Unfortunately, the 506 will have to go on a brief hiatus for the 2011-2012 academic year.  There will not be any meetings for the remainder of the school year.

Why is the men’s ministry called The 506?  There are two reasons: during World War II, the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment was a unit assigned to the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division.  If you ever watched HBO’s Band of Brothers, this was the unit you were following.  They were a group of men who, through the difficulty of war, bonded together and became a group of men as near as brothers.  They stood by each other in victory and in failure, in life and even to death.

Matthew 5:6 says, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”

Bring those two thoughts together and you have the vision of The 506.  We aim to be a group of Christian brothers who stand side-by-side, aiding each other in our pursuit of Christ.  We seek to be identified as His sons, so we seek out His righteousness.  And Christ promises that we will be satisfied in this pursuit.

First and foremost, we hope to understand who we are in Christ.  Without knowing our identity as God’s children through Jesus, we will never truly be able to help one another.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother…

- King Henry in Shakespeare’s “Henry V” Act 4.  Scene III.
