The mission of [nlcf] is to invest in spiritual growth, invite others to follow Jesus and inspire each other to change the world.
My name is Brandon and I am a 2006 Virginia Tech graduate. I received a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics. (I won’t say I earned it because I’m the worst Math major ever. So don’t ask me things.) I have been on staff with [nlcf] since August of 2008 after working in Christiansburg and raising support after graduation.
My role with [nlcf] is as one of the Community Gatherings Directors. This probably means nothing to you, so I’ll try to clarify. I’m largely responsible for the coordination of large group gatherings (i.e. Sunday services and [nlcf]. deeper.). I oversee, train, and/or delegate tasks to volunteers in our varying production ministries. These include the music teams, lighting, sound, projection, and set-up/tear-down. I enjoy seeing a job well done. And more often than not, that means if you’re not noticed, you’ve done it right.
My purpose for mentioning that is to indicate my desire for large group gatherings in [nlcf]. We are a Body coming together to worship Christ and to build each other up in our faith. As long as our attention is focused on Him, He’s receiving the praise and not me, the staff, or the volunteers.
I enjoy worshipping through singing, playing guitar, running projection, and setting up and tearing down while making lots of manly sounds in the process. I am involved with a group of people who head out to Roanoke each Sunday evening to minister to inner city children.
My hope for myself and for others is that we understand the fullness of God’s love for us. I would hope that we would choose to be adopted into His family and identify ourselves as His sons and daughters. My suggestions for songs that beautifully describe these things are How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, Before the Throne, You’re Beautiful, and How He Loves (the John Mark McMillan version with the “sloppy, wet kiss” line).
I hope your involvement with [nlcf] reveals a hint of Christ’s love for you. I pray you are ministered to in this place. And if not, then I pray that God shows you where He wants to meet you through other campus ministries or churches.
